We are America's oldest, continuous, and independent skin diving club in the U.S. We are independent and take no funding from any commercial enterprise.

Minutes from June's meeting:

Our next club meeting will be Saturday, July 20th. Rich & Diana O’Brien have offered to host a club dive outing and BBQ at their camp for this meeting beginning with diving at 9 a.m. followed by a BBQ on shore. Please RSVP to Diana so they can arrange for enough boats to accommodate club members who want to dive. Plan to bring a dish to pass. More details to come.

We are looking for a volunteer to help coordinate Wednesday night dives. Rick Horr is now tied up on Wednesday nights and is not available. We have reached out to Fingerlakes Scuba to see if they would be willing to launch their pontoon boat on Wed. nights and what the fee would be. Mac is looking in to the additional license he would need to charter on the Finger Lakes. If Fingerlakes Scuba is determines they cannot support this, Lonnie will approach National Aquatic and their boat (which is out of the water for repairs at the moment). We are looking for someone that would gather the names of those signing up to dive each Wed. and to help communicate with the boat owner the number of committed members to make sure we meet the minimum needed. Please let us know if anyone is interested in spearheading this.

Our own club member, Diana O’Brien took part in a DEC training program for Blue Green Algae and is now a volunteer for the NYS's 2019 program. New York State has revamped their website and now has an interactive website that is updated 2x a day. Should anyone want to go diving and check the website go to : on.ny.gov/hab or Google "NYHABS" for the most up-to-date information. There is no alert system that you can register for, but once again it is updated 2x a day.

Club members were encouraged to comment during the public comment period (ends July 31) in regards to the proposed National Marine Sanctuary for Lake Ontario. Link will be posted to Facebook and is recorded here: https://sanctuaries.noaa.gov/lake-ontario/

The club is planning an AWARE dive in Skaneateles as part of the 60th anniversary celebration with hopes of having 60 people in the water (divers, snorkelers, etc.) as part of clean-up activities that day. Date and details to be announced after discussions with the town are complete. Please make sure you take part in this awesome and fun opportunity!!

National Aquatic is hosting a trip to Dutch Springs in Pennsylvania for fun diving July 12, 13 and 14 for anyone interested. Please contact the dive shop.
